Fascial Stretching FAQs

Fascial Stretch Therapy – What is it Anyway?

Q: What is Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST)?

A: FST stretches your own body in a truly comprehensive and therapeutic way to create real change that is cumulative. The brainchild of Ann and Chris Frederick, FST opens new pathways in the body to find freedom in movement through our fascial lines.

Q: What is fascia anyway?

A: Within us, we have one collagenous net that runs through our bodies. This net is layered and varied, and it can transmit force. When we’re younger, this net is usually unobstructed, but as we age, it develops adhesions and becomes gummy and sticky. In very old age or in the case of illness, it can even become brittle.

Q: What happens in a fascial stretch session?

A: During a FST session, clients lay on a massage table wearing loose-fitting clothing (best not to wear jeans!). Fascial stretch sessions involve traction and compression, rotation of joints, contraction and relaxation of muscle groups, attention to breath, and, of course, stretching often at a deeper layer than we may have experienced. For this reason, it’s always important to drink extra water on days when you’ve had a stretching session.

Q: What else is included in a FST session?

A: Each session includes suggestions or “homework” to keep the new pathways opening and movements that increase strength in areas with identified weakness. Yoga TuneUp® balls are often incorporated not only into the session but also for at-home practice to build fluidity of movement.

Q: Can Reiki be combined with FST?

A: Yes. Anne offers a Reiki Stretch session that combines fascial stretching and Reiki healing.

Q: Where can I have a FST session with Anne?

A: Anne sees clients for FST sessions at Awareness Massage & Wellness in Concord Township, at her home in Chardon, or at Awaken Yoga & Healing Arts in Mentor. Please contact Anne to schedule an appointment.

Q: What kind of FST sessions do you offer, and what is the cost?

A: An FST session lasts 75 minutes, and the cost varies based on whether it’s an individual session or part of a package. Sessions generally run from $85 for a 6-session package to $125 for an initial two-hour session. FST can be combined with Reiki for a Reiki Stretch session at $85. A Senior Stretch session that is one hour in length is available at $70.
